“IRONWORLD ANNOUNCES 2004 POLKA HALL OF FAME AWARDS
 

 

CHISHOLM –  Ironworld Discovery Center is pleased to announce the 2004 Polka Hall of Fame Inductees recognized for their established national or international reputation in the performance, promotion or preservation of polka music.  The award ceremony will take place during the opening day of the 27th Annual Polkafest on Friday, June 25, 2004.  The Polka Hall of Fame governing board and voting membership selects honorees in two categories including up to two Hall of Fame Inductees and one Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient. Established in 2001, the voting membership is open to the general public interested in becoming a part of the annual selection process.

 

Steve Meisner from Whitewater, Wisconsin will be inducted into the Polka Hall of Fame.  Meisner, considered one of the finest accordion players in the world, was born in 1961, and began the study of piano accordion at age five.  He soon started performing on stage with this father, Verne Meisner, and began winning awards for his playing.  Throughout his youth, Meisner continued his musical study and performance playing the cornet, bass guitar, button accordion, tuba, piano and drums.  As a teenager, he organized the Steve Meisner Band, which has been performing together for more than 26 years traveling internationally.  Meisner also continues to perform regularly with his father Verne, and are scheduled to perform together at Ironworld on Friday, June 25.  Meisner’s recording credits include 18 LP/CD releases, as well as movie, television, video and production credits.  His original composition “Meisner Magic,” is an original song feature in the 2003 motion picture Red Betsy, and the “Tundra Serenade”, “Pee Wee’s Polka”, and “Mysterious Stranger” is featured in the 2004 Miramax award winning motion picture DVD release of Chump Change.
